Social Function :  To describe a particular person, place or thing

Generic Structure :

  1. Identification  : identifies phenomenon to be described
  2. Description      : describes parts, qualities, characteristics.

Significant Lexicogrammatical Features

  1. Focus on specific Participants
  2. Use of Attributive and Identifying Processes
  3. Frequent use of Ephitets and Classifiers in nominal groups
  4. Use of simple present tense.

Surakarta City

Surakarta is a city in Central Java, Indonesia. It is also referred to as Solo or Sala.

Surakarta is located 65 km north east of Yogyakarta and 100 km south east of Semarang.

In Indonesia, Surakarta has an area 44,03 km2, making it the Indonesia’s tenth biggest city after Yogyakarta. It divided 5 subdistricts and 51 administratif village. The population of Surakarta is predominantly Javanese.

Surakarta has a lot of historic places. There are Kasunanan Palace, Mangkunegaran Palace, Klewer Market, Vastenburg fortress, City Hall, Gedhe Harjonagoro Market, Loji Gandrung, and so on. It has also a lot of interest places and shopping centers, for example Solo Grand Mall, Solo Square, Solo Center Grocery, Matahari, and many more. Restaurants, hotels, and other public facilities can be found in all region.

Surakarta is a center for Javanese culture especially dance, music, and traditional ceremony such as gamelan music, keroncong music, puppets show, sekaten, 1 suro night, syawalan ceremony, etc. It is also a center of batik because it has biggest batik market in Indonesia, namely Klewer Market. And the more famous from Surakarta is local foods include Nasi Liwet, Nasi Timlo, Gudeg, Bakpia Balong, Intip, and Serabi.

McQuarie University

MacQuarie University is one of the largest universities in Australia. This year, in 2004, it celebrates its 40th anniversary.

The university is located at the North Ryde Green belt, Sydney, where the New South Wales government sets aside 135 hectares for the institution. In 1964, MacQuarie area was a rural retreat on the city fringe, but today the campus and its surroundings have evolved beyond recognition. The North Ryde District has grown into a district of intensive occupation and hoted by a vibrans.

This emphasis on the importance of landscape has created images of MacQuarie as a place that members of the university are most likely to pleasurably recollect.

One of the highlight of the landscape is the Mars Creek zone. It comprises landscape creek sides and valley floor, a grass amphiteatre, and artificial take surrounded by nature plants and eucalypts.

Today, a railway station is under construction. In three years time, MacQuarie will be the only university in Australia with a railway station on site. MacQuarie is poised to be the most readily accessible in Sydney region by rail and motorway, yet retaining its beautiful side.

    Nanya nih, itu yang Surakarta itu termasuk Descriptive atau Report? Aku masih sering rancu membedakan Descriptive dengan Report. Thanks

      termasuk descriptive. bedanya klo descriptive itu mendiskripsikan secara spesifik, sedangkan report hny mendiskripsikan scr umum.
